For those who don’t know you, who are you?
I’m Shawn — a tech entrepreneur, community builder, and world traveler originally from London, now based in Alicante. I moved here to embrace a better lifestyle, sunshine, and connection with people from all over the world. I’ve always loved bringing people together — whether through tech, events, or shared experiences — and Alicante felt like the perfect place to do that.
What do you do?
I run several ventures that connect technology, people, and opportunities. One of my main projects is TechMeetups, which organizes job fairs and networking vents across Europe for tech professionals and startups. Here in Spain, I’ve launched Activities International, a community platform that helps expats, locals, and digital nomads connect, find housing, learn languages, and build real friendships. I also invest in startups and love mentoring entrepreneurs who are creating
meaningful things.
What is Activities International?
Activities International is a social platform and community that helps people settle, connect, and thrive when moving to a new place — especially in Spain. Through our website and mobile app, members can find everything from language exchanges, apartments, job opportunities, and events to local services like visa help, translations, and even cultural experiences. It’s a mix of a social network, an event hub, and a relocation assistant — designed to make expat life easier and more connected.
What motivated the creation of Activities International, and what has been its impact in the province so far?
When I first arrived in Alicante, I realized how difficult it can be to build a network from scratch. I started by organizing small language exchanges and volleyball meetups, which quickly grew into hundreds of people from around the world joining every week. That’s when I saw the need for something bigger — a platform that could connect people not just socially, but also practically, whether they’re looking for accommodation, help with paperwork, or just someone to go hiking with. Our events and community have created thousands of meaningful connections — friendships, collaborations, and even new businesses have grown from them.
What kind of services do you offer to expats, digital nomads, or anyone who wants to join your community in Alicante?
We help newcomers integrate through a mix of social, professional, and practical support. Weekly community events (language exchanges, beach volleyball, jam nights, cultural experiences). Assistance with relocation services (visa processing, translations, property rental support). A digital community where members can connect for friendship, flat-sharing, jobs, or skill exchange. We want people to feel like they belong — not just live here, but truly feel at home.
Apart from the events you organize, do you offer any other services? If so, what are hey?
Yes, beyond community events, we’ve built a network of local partners and service providers — lawyers, translators, real estate agents, and other professionals who help with everything from opening a bank account to finding an apartment or getting your NIE or visa sorted. We also run special experiences like flamenco nights, hiking adventures, and creative workshops that help people immerse themselves in the culture.
Are Activities International’s services free? How can people get in touch with you?
Most of our community events are free or have a small participation fee to support the venue and organization. Our platform itself is free to join — anyone can sign up and create a profile. You can connect with us through:

What projects or initiatives do you have planned for next year, and how will they impact the expat ecosystem in Alicante?
We’re planning to launch a relocation and visa support program that helps digital nomads, retirees, and professionals move to Spain with confidence. It will include partnerships with trusted local experts for every step of the process — from document collection to housing and integration. We’re also expanding the Activities International mobile app to make it easier for members to match based on interests, services, and lifestyle needs. Our goal is to make Alicante a global hub for connection — a place where community and opportunity meet.
And finally, is there a phrase, philosophy, or role model that guides you in your day-to-day life?
Yes — I believe in the power of community, kindness, and creation. I’ve seen how small actions — like introducing two people or organizing an event — can spark big change. My philosophy is simple: build things that bring people together and make life more meaningful.
